Local Green Party parliamentary candidate Carolyne Culver (Reading West and Mid Berkshire) has welcomed the announcement that the general election will take place on 4th July 2024.

Here are Carolyne’s priorities:

• Increase funding for NHS frontline services, reverse privatisation, and improve pay and conditions.
• Improve health by investing in leisure facilities, green spaces and the production of affordable, healthy food.
• Tackle global heating. Invest in green jobs, renewable energy and home insulation – to boost the economy, bring down energy bills, and shrink our carbon footprint.
• Return Thames Water to public ownership, improve infrastructure, and put an end to sewage in our rivers.
• Incentivise building social homes for rent to reduce housing waiting lists.
• Protect and restore the natural world and reverse the decline in biodiversity. Reconnect spaces for nature.
• End austerity and reinstate long-term settlements for councils to relieve the pressure to make constant cut-backs, like selling off care homes and closing libraries.
• Encourage an honest discussion about the benefits of immigration and the contribution that immigrants have made to this country. Our population is ageing, and our working age population is shrinking.
